I have had a scanner for a long time. I got frustrated with the digital and encryption and gave up for a few years. I got back into the hobby and can hear some analog but most is DMR, DMRE and NXDN. BTW my first scanner was crystal control so that will tell you how long it was the late 1980's I had a Realistic 10 channel crystal control. To answer your question yes I think people should be allowed to listen.

I'm from the UK All emergency services and government agencies, most utility services and Railways, are Tetra encrypted or use phones, And have been for over 25 years. the only emergency service I can listen to is the Coast Guard and Fire ground radios, In my town there's about Three or four radio services Which are not encrypted hardly worth having a scanner Unless you like listening to aircraft which is boring, or the marine bands, CB which is dead, Or amateur radar which is also very dead on UHF/VHF

The police, and we the people need not to forget what the police represent and what they're job is.... To serve and protect-... Not "To harras, spy, bully, stalk, lie, violate are independent freedoms" Etc.... Enouph with the unreasonable searches and over the top egos. Police are supposed to be Peace keepers, who serve and protect the community. Citizens should not feel threatened or have to try and avoid contact with officers, outta fear they woll be cuffed and thrown in a concrete box. And dont get me started on their push to deploy new technologys inplace like A.L.P.R.S, facial recognition, drones over private property, xray tech that can see thru walls of folks homes. Gps trackers, cell phone tracking Etc... unbelievable, this is Merica 🇺🇸 not a authoritarian dictatorship

Great Video! It is the summer of 2024. The Indiana Hoosier Safe-T Trunking Radio System, at least in the Northern Indiana area, is currently P-25 Phase 1 trunking. Phase 2 is coming soon, I don't know how soon, but I know a few people in the LEO arena locally that say, flat out when Phase 2 is rolled out, It is GUARENTEED that encryption WILL BE USED!!! As a law abiding Ham Radio operator and avid Scanner Enthusiast, it makes my blood boil a bit that Encryption is even considered, let alone almost guaranteed to be put in place. I , too can understand that in some Rare situations, S.W.A.T. Teams, under cover, etc. Might need to use some form of Encryption... But NOT Day to Day radio dispatch traffic... Because Indiana is an incredibly RED STATE, I imagine it to be difficult to get in front of this before it happens.. (Currently there are updated police receiver laws on the books in Indiana, that include using an app on your phone that is considered possession of a police radio). It is rather strict that one CANNOT be used in a vehicle OR On foot, Unless you have a letter from the appropriate government personnel, OR You are a licensed Amateur Radio (HAM) operator. It of course does NOT apply to use within a dwelling or other building. IMHO, I feel that the LEO's, FIREFIGHTERS'S, EMTs, and other governmental personal that work for the citizens Should NOT have encrypted communications for their normal comms. THEY work for us! we have a right to transparency of communications from those agencies... As soon as comms go Encrypted, then the possibility of Abusive Shenanigans goes WAY UP! If they know the public can't hear, then unscrupulous actors can go unchecked... That is NOT GOOD!!!! Also, it has been documented many times that law abiding citizens with Public Safety Receivers have helped law enforcement by being extra eyes and ears for them.. Yes, having a "Scanner Radio" in what ever form can be abused, but, I think the benefits of having "Public Safety radio" that can be easily monitored by the community FAR outweighs the liabilities. I think Instead, that there needs to be laws that guide how the SCANNER RADIO apps work while in a vehicle or on foot, by determining that the phone is in movement or some other determination that it is being used illegally. Thanks again for this Still Timely Video!!!! 73

I heard a guy using an Anan 7000 something with & I think without Thetis. Thetis runs on your pc. I think. But, the second vid I watched he didn't use Thetis. He had Horrible powerline noise. As do I. If I need to, I will buy a new Anon. That's how bad my noise is. His sounded exactly the same, but I don't know if his level of noise was as high as mine is. I worked with PGE last summer and the chaged out at least 3 arrestors that were bad. Unfortunately I have more bad equipment from PGE. It's a very long story. It takes forever to first pinpoint the bad equipment but depending on many factors, getting them to fix it can be tough. If I can I would like to cut the power company out of my noise loop. Now.....for RM noise. Not that I need to of course, but I'm confused as to why I shouldn't include the problem noise in the sample. Don't they need to "hear" the real noise in order to progam the AI properly? I will of course follow the instructions. I just loke to know hiw things work if possible. I am also open to try noise phasing hardware. Unfortunately the highest quality unit I'm finding is the DX Engineering NCC II . There are less expensive units. But the NCC is $950.00. And that doesn't include the high quality plug in modules. I just bought a FTdx101MP about 2 years ago. I LOVE THE RADIO. But I sure like the interface on the Anan better. There only only one for sure outcome though. I ABSOLUTELY MUST ELIMINATE THE POWERLINE NOISE. I had a noise free winter last year. I did my first long path contact & my first Antarctica contact. Not to mention an uptick in just tons of great easier to work DX like Israel & Afghanistan. I hope we can touch bases a bit. I'm very excited about doing SOMETHING to mitigate that horrible poweline noise. Take care, Kirk Paul Kunkel WC6T 73s

That said, I've got two CB handhelds that can do both AM and FM: President Randy 2 and Wouxun KG-S72C. Would love to see a comparison between those two, not sure which one I want to keep with me outside the home, and which to leave at home to use around there.

People should stand together and protest. People need to stay informed. I am sure there are more good people that outweigh the bad, and law enforcement needs to deal with it. Our taxes pay their salaries and inadvertently their equipment. As far as fire rescue encryption, that's just plain ridiculous.

Hi, I have a few Baofeng UV-5R radios that I’ve been experimenting with. Recently, I decided to upgrade and got a pair of Quansheng UV-K5's, which I really like. Then, I felt the need for digital radios and purchased a Baofeng DM-1701, hoping to catch some local digital chatter. However, I haven’t been able to pick up anything at all. It seems like I might be doing something wrong, or maybe there’s simply no one talking. Thanks. P.S. I got the digital radio because whenever I scan the area and hear chatter, it’s just static. I know this is because they’re transmitting digitally. After googling digital ham radios, I found the DM-1701 and decided to try it.

Howdy yall, new to the CB world as I was born in 1996. I picked up a cb cobra radio 19 VI something like that with 40 channels equippped with am/Fm. Still trying to understand the methods. My small little cobra radio is set up on my jeep with a fire stick antenna on the back. I picked up the radio for my road trip to Texas from CA. I didn’t hear my much on my way out to Texas, not sure if radio space was dead or if my antenna signal wasn’t strong. Before I installed my fire stick antenna I had purchased a antenna from Walmart with the magnet for temporary as I was running short on time before I hit the road but I’m here in Texas now and I am running fire stick antenna now. Hopefully I get a better signal and can actuallly communite down the hwy as I hope to not catch any severe weather. Cheers thanks for the video!

I'm surprised that these agencies who are encrypting their transmissions on the public radio waves have not bee brought to court. I think it's a form of censorship. The electromagnetic spectrum is public property and the use of it is controlled by the FCC. These agencies should have to apply to the FCC the encrypt any radio transmissions. I don't think criminals are the problem or crime scenes becoming crowded with people. It's just another way for these agencies to take away more of our constitutional rights.

SWAT and tactical channels perhaps should be encrypted. The general channels should not. I also think that radios should have an unalterable log just like chest cameras have memory. This would provide audit capabilities and a FOIA request would be able to tell if cops are using encryption when they should not be.
